We sing a wide range of music from light ballads to songs from musicals and film such as The them from "The God Father" and "Titanic" to modern classics like "Perfect" by Ed Sheeran. Its quite a broad spectrum with ballads from the 50's and earlier with Ivor Novello "Rose of England" to "We are the champions" from Queen. something for everyone.
Singing is good for mental and physical health but most of all its about coming together, making new friends, a love of music and singing regardless of ability and most of all having fun.
As the Choir enters its 44th year and celebrates over 40 years of raising money through music to the tune of over £200,000 for local and national charities.
We invite you to join us by either coming to a concert or event or join the choir, all you need is a love of singing and fun is had by all.
Many thanks must go to the founders but especially to Glynis and Cliff Rogers whose efforts are what made the choir we are today and with their youngest son Andrew following in their footsteps.
Here is to the next 40 years.
Singing For Pleasure is the most successful charity fund-raising choir in Hertfordshire.
Founded in November 1980 by musical directors Cliff and Glynis Rogers, it was the first ever community choir in the area and has gone from strength to strength, gaining local and national awards.
Glynis & Cliff realised that there were a lot of people locally who would like to sing in a choir but were put off from joining because of the audition process that was prevalent in all the local choirs and amateur dramatic societies.
With this in mind, Glynis and Cliff took away the audition process to join Singing For Pleasure.
They were the first to do this in 1980, and it has been copied by most of the local choirs and musical societies since. It was their bravery and forethought that led to Singing For Pleasure being the very first to achieve this. Something that Glynis still believes in to this day.
The choir’s wide repertoire ranges from the easy-listening genre, including lively
arrangements from popular entertainment, to joyous light classics and choral music.
We rehearse every Friday (during term time) between 8pm & 10pm Howlands Baptist Church, The Commons, Welwyn Garden City, AL74RS.
Closer to concert time, we do have extra rehearsals scheduled (usually on Tuesday evenings)
Singing For Pleasure would love to hear from anyone who has a passion for singing. We have an open door policy from 16 to 160! Glynis and Cliff decided never to hold auditions to join Singing For Pleasure.
We remain the most value for money choir in the whole of Hertfordshire. A great way to make new friends
The ability to read music is not necessary, all we ask is a willingness to learn. 3 free taster sessions
